Mr. F. Gordon Bluck (Auckland) has benefited con'siderly in health since coming to the Mother Country. He is now in Edinburgh. '

Colonel R. H. Davies, C.8., of the New Zealand Defence Council, is to be attached to the staff during the coming army manoeuvres.

The late Mr. Richard Maxwell, formerly of the National Bank of New Zealand, left estate of-the- gross value-of £25,726, with net personalty £25,404.

Mr. and Mrs. H. Gjlfillan (Auckland) are going to join the P. and 0. s.s. Morea on November 5; at the conclusion of a seven weeks' tour on the Continent.

Mr, T. H. Hamer, who recently arrived in London to take up the duties at the New Zealand Government office formerly carried on by Mr. C. Wray Palliser, has taken a residence in Sutton, Surrey. ■

Passengers on board the s.s. Rimutaka, which has just left London, include Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Stead; (Christchurchj; Immediately before sailing they completed a pleasant motor tour through Scotland, in a new car which Mr. Stead ■is taking back to New Zealand. " X

The estate of the late Mr. Henry Isaacs is to-day given as of the value of £22,596. Mr. Isaacs, who lived at 110, Greencroft Gardens, West Hampstead, was a member of the firm of Messrs. J. Nathan and Co. j and he was lately chairman of the House Committee of the Jews' Hospital and Orphan Asylum.

Mr. Thomas Chamberlin '■' Tims, a former resident of Auckland, -has changed his surname to that of Chamberlin, and the London Gazette of Friday contains the following notification on "the subject: -r-" The King has been pleased to grant unto Thomas Chamberlin Tims, of * St. Ives, in the County of Cornwall, gentleman, His Royal license and authority that he and his issue may bear the surname of Chamberlin in lieu of that of Tims, and that he and they may bear the arms of Chamberlin."

It is with deep regret that I have to-day to reeord the tragic death of Mr. John Milne Dalrymple, M.8., Ch.B.; only son of the Rev. A. M. Dalrymple, M.A., of Puerau, Otago, New Zealand. :It took place on August 26, as the result of injuries received through colliding with: a tramcar in the Stratford' Road, Sparkhill, Birmingham. Dr. : Dalrymple, : ; who had been acting ae locum tenens to Dr. Tipping, of Stratford Road, Birmingham;; was to have sailed for New ■■ Zealand to-morrow, having obtained the position of medical officer on board the s.s.Mimiro. "

Mrs. R. M. Mastin has presented, to th© people of New Zealand, through the High Commissioner, some interesting relics of the late Queen Victoria. They came into her possession from a relative, who was a member of the household of the late Duchess of Kent, and afterwards of Queen Victoria. The relics, which have been taken out by the Prime Minister, consist of a gold watch, an autograph letter of the lnte Queen, medals, and photographs. Mrs. Mastin decided on her course of action in appreciation of New Zealand's offer of a Dreadnought, to the British navy.

Two years have elapsed since Miss Vera Jacobsen (Auckland) took up her studies in portrait painting at the French Impressionist School in London. She has now become head portrait-painter at that institution, and she has been advised by her master to keep up her quick-sketch-ing. A portrait by this New Zealand young lady has been bought for : the American Gallery. Miss Jacobsen purposes returning to New Zealand next year, but in the meanwhile she will study on the Continent; goimr first 'to, Paris, after attending the Abbt lectures -here, then to Munich, Florence, and Rome.
