The country is still n firm class of atulesite, and is of an excellent class for carrying gold-bearing reefs. The reef i* a nice compact body of ore, and still shows gold bydish tost. A little water is making in the present face, a.mi several silica '.toads are crossing from the western side of the drive, which loads the manager to 'believe that they are droppers from the western branch, as the junction of the two reefs should bo met with in about 40ft, of driving.

MAGNET. The secretary of tho Magnet Gold Mining Company (Mr. .1. B. Sheath) received the. following wire from the mine manager yesterday:—-" Contractors intersected another body of quartz 2ft wide, heavily mineralised."

SHQTOVER. n Tho manager of She Shore ver mine, telegraphing yesterday, sated:—"Good quartz, with big flow of water, low level." "

NOTES. In the Glamorgan mine, Whaugamata, a commencement has been made to strip tho. reef. As the country wast of a mild description at the start fair progress -was made. The reef is from 2ft to ..sft wide, composed of quartz characteristic of /tho district/ On break ingdown on Wednesday last, a rib of sulphide, varying from Jin to 6iti wide, and of high value*, was ox posed. The manager is fin warding two samples of the reef—No. 1, from the outcrop at the entrance to the drive, and No. 2, from present face of drive—6s be assayed so as to ascertain 'their- value. >< - *' : '?- ri .;""•■■■;-";■;-:'

Tho intermediate level in the- Mountain King mine has been advanced 6ft for the . week. The country is ill , all that can ho desired' for gold-bearing' reefs. 'Thereof has been taken down to within 6ft of tho present face, and average* from 6in to I2in in width, and is Mill producing high grade ore. At this point the richest ore has been obtained since storting the intermediate level, and when taken down showed stronir dn'.rt and seaftM of gold well distributed through tho ore. The second tstope hits been carried along 25ft from the main ripe. The reef there averages from 6in to 18in in width, and showed strong colours »arid dabs when taken down. No. 3"sfopo has been started from the main rise, and carried along sft. Striopin<r will continue till to-day, when.the reef will lie taken down.

Reporting for the week ended September 20, the* manager of the Handawortb mine states that in' the south face of tin* low level three leader* are fthowinfj. including the- one which showed dabs of gold. and Rave' a few specimens. This, latter leader anpears, from its general ; underlie and character, to be No. 1: lender,, awl in tho upper level lies to the east of No. ?., upon which the winze is Ixunjj sunk. Tto lefthand leader, in the face of low level, appear? to bo identical with No. 2, and carries pood, clean walls, but a few day*' work will be to determine tH». In the winxe from No. 2 level the cross leader is carrying the- usual specimens, and the main leader is showing good dabs of cold. In tho Irene section die contractors are making very fair progress with the crosscut; for Huntlv's reef, and are in favourable country for gold. «-

The reef in the New Waitaia mine tra* taken down in the rise above No. 5 level on Monday, arid proved to be from 6iu to 18in wide, showing small, dabs and colours of gold. In the stope north of the rise at intermediate lev* 1 ! the reef varies from 4trx to 15in in size, and is only showing colours of gold at present. The- block being taken out. south of the rise at this level is yielding splendid cni'hine dirt, tho reef beinjf from 12in to 18in wide, all clean solid stone, and sbowinar nice dabs of gold. Tn tho south drive at, No. 5 level there is very little. eh an co, except that nice bunches of mineralised stone are bstrinninc to show along the floor, all sitm of the Sink having gone. At the low level, adds the manager, tho contractors are making bettor progress, the country having improved during the last few days. The battery repairs were well in hand, and should have enabled a start being made with the treatment of the slimes about TiiCßdey.
