THE OSAKA FIRE.
ENORMOUS DESTRUCTION. OVER THIRTEEN THOUSAND HOUSES BURNT. By Telegraph.— Press Association.— Fort Darwin, September 6. Eastern* files contain details of the f* cent great fire at Osaka, in Japan. Tim conflagration raged for 25 hours,, despite the efforts of 600 firemen, 200 C police and an enormous force of troops. It, devastated an area of 2£ miles in length by a-quarter to half a mile in breadth, and destroyed the- law courts and many public 'buildings, including the; Governor's house, . school,'!,* '. temples*, museums, warehouses, and over 13,000 houses. A strong vj n rl, long continued drought, and poor fire brigade equipment were factors assisting the disaster.
