" THE BREED OF THE TBESHAMS." The J. C. Williamson Julius Knight season of 12 nights will bo inaugurated at His Majesty's Theatre to-night, by the production, for tho first time in Auckland, of B. M. Dix and E. G. Sutherland's brilliant romantic play, "The Breed of the Treshams." Juuging by the public interest evinced in to-nignt's representation, a full house is practically assured. So much has been written about Mr. Knight's performance of Lieutenant licresby, othefwuo known as "Tho Bat." in this play, that an expectant public will await with moro than un ordinary interest tho elucidating of this difficult and complex character. A special feature of to-night's production is said to bo an uncommon elaboration in scenic effect. Several of tho scenes displayed are spoken of as veritablo masterpieces of the scene painter and' master mechanist's art. T'lie company, which numbers over 70 members, including an operatic chorus of ladies and gentlemen, and a complete corps do ballet, arrived last night, by tho fi.f. Victoria from Sydney, having dolio one of J. C. Williamson's long hops, coming direct from Brisbane. To-night Mr. Hal. Campbell, tho eminent American musical director, will control a specially augmented orchestra, who will discourse tho dainty music incidental to the play. Tho curtain will rise at eight, o'clock, and fall finally at 10.46. The play is produced under the personal direction of Mr. Julius Knight, Mr. Thos. S. Foster being tho stage manager. To-morrow evening is announced as a vice-regal command night, Their Excellencies Lord and Lady Jflunkct and suite having signified their intention of being present. The box plans for the season are now open at Wilchmiri and Arey's. " The Breed of the Treshama " will bo staged for tho first three nights, and on Thursday *' Monsieur Bcaucairo " will be played.

\ v OPERA HOUSE. Largo houses on Saturday afternoon and evening greeted the presentation of an entirely Hew set of cinematograph films at tho. "Opera House. The reputation which this popular theatre has achieved by a constant, succession of good programmes is certainly not tarnished by the selection which will he Known during this week. "The Banknote" is the title of one of the host picture*. In it the methods of the working of a gaujr of forgers and coiners are exposed, and an clement of strong human interest is added by the introduction of a hoy of about four years of age, as one of the principal characters of the little drama presented. "The Man in the Iron Mask" deals with the life and adventures of the unfortunate son of Louis XIII, who was placed in the Bastille with an iron mask over his face. It is a faithful delineation of history, and besides being intrinsically interesting cannot fail to bo educative. Two pictmes, different in subject, but resembling each other in the gorgeousness of their colouring, . are entitled " Royal Ascot Races" and "A Trip on the Historic MeclAvay," respectively. The first shows the racing at Ascot, and gives a remarkably vivid reproduction of the fashionable and magni-ficently-costumed gathering on the lawn and grandstand, in which Royalty is included. The second gives a view of the Mod-way and banks, and a large number of very historic cathedrals, churches, castles, and bridges thereon. ■ The tints are specially fine. 1 Amongst the trick films may be mentioned "The Troubles of a Bill Roster," which contains a succession of grotesque and humorous incidents. " How the Bulldog Paid His Rent " is another well conceived comedietta. Plenty of humour and tragedy is to bo found in the remaining pictures, ■which include " The Tannery," " Mimic Battle on Whale Island." "His First Love." "The New Stenographer," "Turning the Tables." " Only a Tramp.'' The records " A Taxi-metro Cab" and " A Little Boy Called Taj) ," were given on the cinephono. The pictures will be repeated this evening, and in addition a film just imported from Home, and showing do Blcriot's recent successful aeroplane flight across the English Channel, will bo put on.

TIVOLI THEATRE. The Tivoli Theatro was well filled in all parts on Saturday evening, when Mr. Maurice's Vaudevillo Company gave their twelfth performance. The company will appear here all this week, and to-night they will submit a complete chango of programme, and will bo strengthened by the sippearanco of Madame Blanche Correlli. Mr. George Sorlio will bo heard in new songs, and new items will be given by Shaw and Armor, Fearlie Golden, Walter Jamie•■jon, Thelina Wood, Daphne Sisters, etc. A new series of Tivoli pictures, and a humorous aftor-picco entitled "The Jealous Husband," should make a strong and at* tractive programme. The management announce- that reserved- seats and day sales may be obtained at the theatre office.

The military picture, " Boy Scouts to flic Rescue," invariably arouses the enthusiasm of the audienoo. In addition to the star picture there arc? many much above the average.
