ATHLETICS.
• AUCKLAND HARRIERS. 64-MILE ROAD RACE. The Auckland Harriers held a 6i-mile road race in the Domain or Saturday afternoon, starting from the i?.vilion. The course "was as follows:—Starting from Domain pavilion, up the hill, jumping fence, at north-east corner, then along road at back of Blind Institute, along Domain drive, taking turn which leads to Stanley-street, then up narrow path from bowling green, thence back to pavilion. Three times over this course. There were eight competitors, the handicaps being: G. N. Hill, scratch; C. Reid, lim. ; C. F. J. Ornstein, 2m.; R. Ayling, 3im.; W. Wilshaw, 5m- ; H. MeClune, 6£m.; Burton, Bm.; A. Ornstein, 9m. Mr. F. S. Ballin, acting as starter, despatched tho competitors away to time. A. Ornstein, who had 1£ minutes t advantage over Reid, and a nine minutes' advantage over Hill, got away in good style, and settling down to a steady stride ran home an easy winner, Burton being second, Reid third, Wilshaw fourth, and Hill fifth. A. Ornstein's time was 41rn. 19 3-55., but this was beaten by Reid, Hill, and Wilshaw, who ran tho distance in 36m. 10s., 38m. 39 l-55., and 41m. 51 l-55., respectively. Messrs. A. Plugge and T- B. O'Connor officiated as judges, and Messrs. F. Fagan and A. S. White as timekeepers. The winner receives a gold medal. GYMNASTIC DISPLAY. The junior department of the Auckland branch of the Y.M.C.A- gave their season's gymnastic display on Saturday afternoon before a largo gathering of parents and friends. The work reflected great credit on their instructor, Mr. F. O'Gorman. Afternoon tea was partaken of by the guests of the association.
