The general strike in Sweden has collapsed, the Government's mediation having oeen accepted in the dispute which led to the general strike. CAUSE OF THE STRIKE. There were 285,762 men out on strike in Sweden out of a total union membership of 1,460,000, exclusive of 10,000 agricultural labourers, who refused to join. For some time the strikers have been losing heart. The strike arose owing to the workmen in certain industries refusing to accept the arbitrator's award, the masters locking out 83,000 men. The general strike followed.
