DEATH OF THE MARQUIS OF RIPON.

Tin-: death, is announced of the Marquis of Ripon, late the Liberal Leader in the House of Lords, who parsed away at Studley Royal, Ripon, at the age of 81. The death of Lady Papon two years ago, after 55 years of happy wedded life, was a great blow to the veteran Minister, and undoubtedly clouded his later days. Light months ago the marquis, who up to that time had taken an active part in all Government debates in the Lords, and had been an energetic platform speaker, hi spite of signs of physical infirmity, relinquished almost, simultaneously his other- as Lord of the Privy Seal and his leadership for the Government in the Upper House, in winch latter capacity he had succeeded Karl Spencer. lie was born oil October 24. 1827, at 10, Down-ing-street, when ids father. Lord Goderich, was Premier for a brief spell. He is succeeded by his son Earl do Grey (who must not be confused with Earl Grey, GovernorGeneral of Canada), born in 1852, renowned as a. hunter of big game, and the possessor of a famous collection of trophies. Lord Be Grey bears the distinct ion of being the best shot, in England, and the finest amateur billiard player.
