GREAT LOSSES FEARED.

HEAVIEST FLOODS FOE YEARS. (Received August 21, 1 a.m.) Melbourne, August 20, Nearly all the rivers are in. flood, and great losses are feared. The Flemington racecourse is 3ffc under water. The floods in the Geelong district are the heaviest experienced for years, and railway traffic is disorganised. -<"-■

The " Englishman's Home" Company, who were journeying to Sydney to catch the Moana to-morrow for Wellington, were held up by the floods, and the New Zealand tour has been postponed for the present.

The township of Newstead is flooded. The Loddon River rose with great rapidity, and the Newstead Hotel was washed into the middle of the street and wrecked. Many of the houses have 7ft of water in them.
