HARBOUR IMPROVEMENTS.

[BY TELEGRAPH. PRESS ASSOCIATION.]

New Plymouth, Friday. The New Plymouth Harbour Board decided to-day to proceed with the new wharf works in connection with the deep sea harbour proposal. The Board decided on a short, as opposed to a long, wharf scheme, and will proceed at once to widen the existing wharves to 72ft, giving accommodation for five lines of rails. It was also decided to dredge the basin to a depth of 33ft at low water. The new dredge is now being constructed in England, and the harbour works should be so far advanced as to admit Home liners within two years.
