FIRE IN WAKEFIELD-STREET.
BOOT FACTORY DAMAGED
A fire broke out in Wakefield-street last night, which threatened for a time to assume serious dimensions. A Chinaman noticed flames issuing from E. E. Leaning's boot factory, about 11.30, and gave the alarm. The City Brigade was quickly on the spot, followed by the Ponsonby Brigade, and the fire wa« located at the hack of the shop, under the stairs leading to the workshop above. The stairs were partially destroyed when the brigade arrived, and the flames were attacking the ceiling, but a lead was taken inside the building, and the fire quickly brought under control. No damage was done to the second floor, but the shop suffered from fire and water..
