ENTERTAINMENTS.
HIS MAJESTY'S THEATRE. The pantomime, "Jack and Jill," continued its successful run at His Majesty's Theatre last evening, and the sparkle and brilliancy of the production drew plaudits from the crowded house. Only three more performances will be given, two of them to-day, when, in addition to the usual evening programme, there will be a matinee. OPERA HOUSE. The popular programme was again shown for the last time last night before a very full* house. _ This afternoon, at the matinee, an entire change of pictures and cinephone items will bo shown for the first time. The principal picture ■is "Tho Gambler." Others include: "The Amateur Detective," "Young Britons." "Breeding Bulls," "A Narrow Escape/' "Grin and Win," "The Crisis in-Turkev,' "A Race for the Fanners' Cup," "Picturesque Kieff," "Two Pigeons," and "Love, Wins at Last". The cinephono items are "Mona" and "The, Land. of Hope and Glory." • ■><< — - ROYAL ALBERT HALL. [ : A full house greeted Path© Pictures last, night, and the programme was received with demonstrations of delight. The programme contains several fine pictures, notably "The Matinee Idol," which is a brilliant pictorial burlesque. . A matinee will be given to-day at 2.30.' • TIVOLI THEATRE. The Tivoli Theatre, Newton, was agait well patronised last night, the pictures shown proving highly interesting and entertaining. To-night concludes the present programme, and is the last-appearance of the Harmonious Huxhams. A J matinee will be given thie afternoon. On Monday a programme of vaudeville items,-by a Sydney company will be commenced. WEST'S PICTURES.
By the Wimmera arriving to-morrow from Sydney there will be landed an entirely new consignment of; pictures to be shown by West's Picture Company during their short season, commencing at His Majesty's Theatre on Wednesday next. By the same boat, Mr. Geoffry Nye, thefirm's New Zealand avant courier; will also arrive,, to complete arrangements. It is claimed by the management that no expense has been spared by the West's Proprietary to uphold their already high standard of programmes, and to this end they have entered, into especial arrangements with Messrs. Pathe Freresto receive the pick of that well-known firm's enormous output of animated picture subjects. The chief feature of each evening's programme will be the magnificent art studies, these being representations of famous plays bv leading artists. The comedy element will also be in evidence, and it is stated that some of the latest screamers have been sent over. .• ■ •■ ; J TOMMY BURNS. The box plan for the appearance of Tommy Burns at His Majesty's Theatre on Tuesday evening next will open at Wildman and Arey's this morning; and will be on view there until one o'clock to-day, and until 10 o'clock this, evening at His Majesty's Cafe. A sp-icial feature of the meeting will be the appearance of Ton* Lees, who is to meet Tommy Bums. In addition to this attraction several bouts will be introduced by local amateurs, who will box for trophies given by Tommy > Burns, also Joe Gardiner, England's 1 champion light-weight wrestler, who will meet a well-known local wrestler. Professor Bickerton is said to-be a brilliant lecturer, and his visit is looked forward /to with special interest. ' ; " i ''". ; ',.,.;'''.' ,".!,"-!,'. V. CONCERT AT BLIND INSTITUTE. An excellent concert was tendered to the inmates and staff, of the Institute for the Blind on Thursday evening. Items were given by the following, and in each instance were enthusiastically applauded and encored: Mrs. Abel Rowe played two charming zither solos, and also contributed contralto songs to her zither accompaniment in artistic style. • Miss Ethel Whiting (soprano) sang several songs with great taste and : expression. ;, The Unique Vocal Quartet, (Messrs. Abel Rowe, All. , G. Fogerty, Jas. Lonergan, and Karl Atkinson) added much to the enjoyment of all present with their mirth-provoking part-songs, solos, and duets, eliciting storms of applause., ; , During the evening the choir of the institute, under the conductorship of Mr. Hunt, sang several glees in splendid fashion, giving fine evidence of careful training and deep intelligence of the pupils. At the conclusion of the entertainment three lusty cheers were accorded the concert party for the enjoyment given. Mr. R. Leslie Hunt officiated as accompanist to the soloists' with much taste. The 20th annual social of the factory staff of Archibald. Clark and Sons was held *• in the Druids' Hall, Newton, last night, when 75 couples toed the floor, dancing being kept up vigorously till : the . small hours of the morning, and a highly enjoyable time being spent by all. _ - ■ < > . A grand bazaar and art union in connect ion with the Star of Eden Lodge, 1.0.0. F., and Auckland Football Association will be opened on Wednesday next by the Mayor (Mr. C. D. Grey) in St. James' Hall) and remain open on the three following days, from three to five aoid 7.30 to 10 p.m. The ~ art union prizes. valued at £80, and the side shows 'are numerous, including Punch and Judy show, shooting gallery, etc.
