A LEGISLATOR'S DEATH.

MR. A. E. REMINGTON, M.P.

[BY TELEGRAPH.OWN CORRESPONDENT.]

Wellington, Tuesday. Mb. Arthur Edward Remington, M.P. for Rangitikei, passed away at his residence in Tinakori Road, Wellington, at an early hour this morning. The deceased, who was only 53 # years of age. had been in failing health for some time past, and only a few months ago returned from, a health trip to Australia. He was a native of New Plymouth, and some 25 years ago opened a business at Bulls (Rangitikei) as a chemist. He always took a keen interest in local affairs, and in 1879 he entered the Bulls Town Board as chairman, a position which he occupied until 1890. He was also a member of the Rangitikei County Council from 1881 to 1891, and he did good service on the Wanganui Hospital Board and the Hunterville Town Board. About 20 years ago he left Bulls and established himself in business as a chemist at Hunterville, where he remained until about two years ago, when he came to reside in Wellington. He had been member for Rangitikei since the general election of 1902, when he was chosen as the Liberal candidate by the late Mr. Seddon at a big political gathering at Mangaweka, against several other candidates for" Parliamentary honours. In Parliament his chief concern was to see that the interests of the back blocks dwellers were properly conserved, and though a strong upholder of the principles of Liberalism, as set forward in the Government's policy, he never failed to make a vigorous demand for consideration for those who live in the inner recesses of the country, and his intimate'knowledge of the subject never failed to gain for his remarks a sympathetic hearing. Death was due to paralysis.
