STILL NO SIGN.
THE MISSING WARATAH.
THREE WEEKS OVERDUE.
By Telegraph.— Association.—
(Received August 17, 11 p.m.)
London, August 17. The absence of confirmation of the story of the captain of the Insiziva that corpses were floating near the mouth of the Bashee River, has produced a slightly more favourable impression in London regarding the missing liner Waratah, now three weeks overdue at Capetown.
There. is little insurance business doing, the rate quoted being 85 guineas per cent. The cruiser Pandora has started on another search for the Waratah, and is to cover an area not yet traversed by the other steamers.
In reply to Mr. Deakin'e suggestion to despatch a warship from Australia, to search for the Waratah, the Admiralty point out (states a Press Association cable from Melbourne), that as it would take three weeks to reach the vicinity of Capetown it is not disposed to adopt the suggestion.
