WATERSIDE WORKERS.
INSPECTION OF SHIPS' GEAR.
[BT TFLEGBArn. —PRESS ASSOCIATION.]
Wellington, Tuesday. The Waterside Workers' Conference was continued to-day. A motion was passed urging the Government to take over the Wellington ferry service. A motion was also passed urging the Government to make better provision for the inspection of ships' gear, and that all chain gear be inspected and stamped at least every six . months. The delegates urged the Government to re-enact clause 5 of the original Arbitration Act, allowing two employers or seven workers to form employers' or workers' unions respectively. The last amendment to the Act increased the numbers to three and 15 respectively. Another resolution affirmed the principle of crib time, and that workers should be paid their wages in employers' time.
