In Coromandel lines Royal Oaks (paid) sold at 2s lid ' and 3s, and (con.) at 2s 7d and 2s 6d. Crowns eased off to 7s 3d. and Tairua Golden Hills to 6s 7d. A number of other stocks i were dealt in at the usual prices. I i-' ; Conditions of trade since our last report are j unaltered, but from now onwards we can expect business to brighten tip considerably. : ■■■Currants: As advised, prices have taken * sharp rise, and a still further advance is looked for. . ! ! Sultanas are slightly easier, but we think i the drop is only temporary. Good business !;■» going through at to-day's prices. | ■;j , jgs: No change to report. Merchants are ■; Booking freely to arrive for Christmas trade. U... Prunes: To-day's cable indicates an upward tendency. A good local inquiry exists for spot stocks. :; Dates: Market is about cleaned up for present season's stocks. No change in prices a.- regards the forward market. Caudles: At present low price busing, is brisk. Shipment of Burmas just arrived went rapidly into consumption, with a sympathetic demand for the local arviclc. * Cream of Tartar: Prices arc very low, and w« consider the present a good time for ; operating. Almonds: Sicilys have declined a fraction. j Jordans and Valencia* are unaltered. j§ Canned Fruits: There is every indication !; of an advance in price of Californian canned j . fruits within the course of a few days. Aus.tralian advices indicate a shortage for the ; new season's pack. j/Haricot Beans: Good inquiry for spot i.j Blocks, and holdings aro in light, compass. '■'■[. Castor Oil:-Quotations for November direct shipment, are slightly easier, j Linseed Oil: No alteration in price, but I London cables indicate that higher prices .trill.rule in the near future.
;t Pig Iron: Marker steady at last quotation. Wire: Fair orders have been placed dur;:ing the week at current quotations. Hides: There is no change to note. Prices continue firm, with good inquiry. Sleepskins: Market continues firm, but tbere is a tendency for prices to be easier. Tallow: Market very firm at late rites. ! 1 Potatoes: The j Moura brought 755 sacks from the South to a market that was only ;fairly supplied, and the demand continues Rood, both 1 for seed and table. - Price is £5. Possibly the information that attempts will be made, to lift the restrictions now in fore© fat Australia preventing Now Zealand potatoes being imported into that country may : make holders in the South firmer. Unless this happens there does not seem to be much j probability of any groat alteration in the value. ■/,".' ' r '•--"' '■'.' ■'■\..'''■':■■■»•■■"'' v: ■['"'' ' t '... ; V - : .'"; '■'""•
Onions: The Moura brought 127 laekfi ; from the South to a bare market. Price is £7 for prime. On _ account of the quality :■ of /the onions, distributors are only buying sufficient to keep them going. A shipment !of Japanese may be expected to arrive here next Monday. j Oats: Stocks in Auckland aro ample for requirements. The market in the South is 'undoubtedly slightly easier. Price, 2s sd. Claft is very plentiful, and, owing to the quantity.. ol green feed, the demand is not , very strong. . The Flora brought rather a leayy shipment from Pieton, the quality of (which is very prime. Local-grown is still coming. in very freely, and holders are jßnxioiis to quit. Price remains at £4 for ; prime local and £4 10s for Southern. I Fowl. Wheat: There is no change to report." . Stocks are light; demand good. Price, 4s Bd. Maize: Tho Aupouri brought 143 sacks, and tho Ngatiawa 232 sacks from the coast. Stocks held hero are rather more than the demand warrants, and in consequence it las been rather difficult to mak-; sales of any size ex wharf, distributors preferring to purchase just sufficient for their immediate .wants. Consequently, most of the maize that has arrived within the last few days has had, to be taken into store. Price remains atSrlOd ox store for prime sample. Some inferior lots have been offered at a slightly lower price. > ' " Bran: : A drop cf 7s 6d per ton has been announced in this, and the price now is ; 43|175,6d. Stocks are quite sufficient to .meet, the demand, which is.not very strong just now. v:."- _'' , I Pollard: This has also been lowered, and tho price is now £4 15s, but there is a fair 'mount of business doing; still, stocks aro tuple.; \ ' ; fungus: All- dry lots coming forward are realising sd. Some of the recent arrivals save been very damp and required drying. Hax: The deliveries for 16 clays of August *» 352 bales, equal to 70 tons. The latest cables from London notify a firmer tone in the market, and there is more inclination to oo business for forward shipment at prices &»t are rather in excess of the present weal quotations, which have b?cn nominal ■or some considerable time. Should this Kratimie there is no doubt that a good many "wra mills will commence operations this /*»« on, and we may look for the supplies « flax to be very much augmented. At %Jpresent time it is not safe to alter the flotations that have been in force for some and are still only nominal, viz., £19 fi lor g.f.a.q., £17 10s for f:a.q., and £14 *J3for common. . Tow; There is not a great quantity of this «*img in. For the 16 days of August 181 «'«,": equal to 18 tons, came to hand.
