BANK MANAGER'S FALL.
CHARGE OF EMBEZZLEMENT.

Adelaide, August 6. Alfred W. Jacobs, late manager of the Bank of Adelaide at Caltowie, has been sentenced to 12 months', imprisonment lor the embezzlement of £213 belonging -to the bank. . . ' J
When the case was-before the lower Court, the accountant of the . Bank of Adelaide handed in a statement signed by " accused, in which. Jacobs confessed to. having embezzled certain amounts. It was stated that accused had been in the employ of the bank for 25 years, three years as manager at Caltowie. Shortly'after/his arrest he handed to Detective Nation a paper, and remarked, " Here is a sketch. I have planted £50 ;in sovereigns !in - a tobacco tin, under a. shed. It is all that is left out of the money I 'took, v! wish to refund-it to the bank. As they have v; been so good to Mrs. Jacobs, it is the least I can do.''■ . The detective found/ the sovereigns at the spot pointed out. • "
