OHINEMURI COUNTY COUNCIL.

[BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] : . Paeroa, Thursday. At the monthly meeting of the Ohinemuri County Council, Mr. P. Grace presiding, tenders were accepted as follow: —Strengthening and repairing Karangahake suspension bridge, J. W. Forrest, £114 16s; repairing and redecking Waitekauri bridge, on the main road,- R. Pennell, £15 forming and sanding 34 chains of Wiseman's Road, Waitoa, Smallman Bros., £84 4s. A recommendation was received from the subcommittee appointed at last meeting that P. Treanor's tender be accepted for carting at' Paeroa and Karangahake, that E. Bain's tender be accepted for carting at Waikino and Waitekauri, that W. Forrest's tender be accepted for the supply of timber and drainpipes, and that J. Hague Smith' and Co. tender be accepted for the supply of ironmongery. The recommendations were adopted. It was decided to ask the Minister for Mines to treat as irrecoverable rents on mining privileges throughout the district that the mining registrar had been unable to collect. The amount involved was over £1000.

Word was received from the Mines Department that the Minister had approved of a subsidy of 5s per foot to enable McClymont and Williamson to drive a tunnel at Dogherty's Creek, Karangahake. The Council decided to grant a subsidy of 2s 6d per foot towards the cost of the tunnel. '■ It was decided to erect a lamp at the railway crossing in William-street, Paeroa. An application from the Karangahake School Committee for drainpipes to drain the water away from the school ground was granted, the cost not to exceed £40. The report of the Finance Committee showed the overdraft to be £9660 lis 2d, and the receipts last month £3952 0s sd. Accounts amounting to £2103 19s 8d were passed for payment.
