SUNDAY GOLF.

A PREMATURE RESOLUTION.

It has been rumoured recently that the Auckland Golf Club purposes holding golf meetings on their new links, at Otahuhu, on Sundays, and so much credence has this statement gained, that the Auckland Clergy Association of the Anglican Church felt called upon to protest, and at their last monthly meeting they passed the following resolution :—"That the clergy present at this meeting regret extremely that the Auckland Golf Club proposes to hold golf meetings at the Otahuhu links on the Lord's Day, and that they will do all in their power to persuade their parishioners not to take part in such meetings."

The resolution appears to bo altogether premature. The secretary of tho Auckland Golf Club stated to a Herald representative yesterday that tins Auckland Club had not, as yet, gone out to Otahuhu, and would not do so until about November. The committee of the Golf Club was not contemplating doing anything in the nature of starting Sunday golf meetings. No proposal or suggestion to this effect had come before the committee.

It was suggested at the Police Commission at Christchurch that constables found it irksome, after going off duty at 5.30 a.m., to attend Court at 10.30 a.m. to give evidence in regard to a case. Mr. Bishop asked the witness, a constable, if there was a disposition among officers faced with this contingency to turn the blind eye to offenders in the small hours of the morning. The witness hesitated to express an opinion, 'but Mr. Dinnie, Police Commissioner, candidly stated that the consideration had some weight with constables.
