STRICT LAND REGULATIONS
To meet the strong demand for land under th.2 Lands for Settlements scheme, Mr. Barron, chief land purchase officer, has been inspecting a large number of properties in Canterbury and Otago which are under offer to the Government, and he will make his report to the Land Purchase Board. He will probably visit Auckland next week, and then report upon the estate at Martinborough, in the Wairarapa, which is under offer to the Government. There appears to be still some confusion via. the minds of many regarding the scope of the improved farm settlement proposals, and the Minister for Lands desires to emphasise the fact that the only thing necessary to entitle an applicant to put in his application is that he is landless. There will be no discrimination between Civil servants and any. other section of the community. Regulations regarding transfer will be strictly enforced and are exceedingly stringent, one clause providing that no transfer can be granted by the Land Board without good and substantial reason, and no profit can be made i out of the transaction.
