AN IMPERIAL SCHEME.
WORK OF THE CONFERENCE.
(Received August 5, 10.50 p.m.)
London, August 5.
The Imperial Defence Conference has not yet appointed a committee of experts. The naval memorandum covers such an amount of ground that the Conference meets to-mor-row, to resume the general discussion, and further sittings are possible before the mass of details is handed over to experts.
Much detailed discussion and an expert committee are necessary before a plan of action can be perfected and agreed to.
Thus far, the delegates have subscribed to the general principle that an Imperial scheme of defence is essential, and that the burden must be a joint one. In what form, and in what proportion, it shall be borne by the overseas dominions will remain a matter for future arrangement.
