A CREMATORIUM.
[BY TELEGRAM—OWN CORRESPONDENT.]
Wellington, Sunday. The crematorium, which is situated in the Karori Cemetery, is practically completed. The' building is constructed of red brick, and is black pointed with cement dressings, which gives the little building an attractive appearance. The roofing has been done with Marseilles tiles, out of which rises an ornamented tower 50ft high, which conceals the chimney x of the furnace. The front portion of the building comprises the chapel, the dimensions of which are 28ft by 18ft. The chapel has walls of pointed brick and panelled ceiling. Behind the chapel is tho cremating chamber, which is 24ft by 15ft. The finishing work is still being done on the furnace, but it is anticipated that another fortnight, will see this work completed, after which the furnace will have to be allowed to dry for several weeks before it . can be put to use. Before the crematorium can be used the Government will have to frame regulations, governing the use of general crematoria in New Zealand, as this is the first to be erected.
