He thought • the approaching storm would probably be '■ of shorter duration than that of last week. J As regards earthquakes, Mr. Stevenson considered that the major period of such ■ disturbances had passed for the year, but predicted that a minor period would set in next month, anil would extend at short - intervals over several months. The shocks " would not- be so severe as in the. last seismic period in the earlier part of the year.
