WELLINGTON TO LYTTELTON.
MARAROA TO BE LAID UP. [BY TELKGEArn.TOESS ASSOCIATION.] Wellington*, Monday. One effect of the adjournment of Parliament until over the winter months will be a ■ great diminution in the passenger traffic between Wellington and Lyttelton. Hitherto the volume of traffic for long stretches of winter has been fairly constantly maintained in past years by almost innumerable members of deputations from the South, and the indefinite number of people who gather at the capital from all quarters during session. In consequence, however, of the adjournment, "a falling off in the number of passengers has been noticeable during the past week or two, especially on the Mararoa. The Union Company has accordingly decided to withdraw that vessel from the ferry service, and the Pateena will resume her running to-morrow evening. The officers and engineers of the Mararoa will transfer to the Pateena on her arrival to-morrow from Lyttelton, while the 6teamer herself will be laid up in Wellington.
