PIGEON-SHOOTING.

The much-discussed question of the cruelty of pigeon-shooting matches was brought up at the last meeting at Christchurch of the committee of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. The matter arose through the acting-inspector (Mr. A. Wenstrupp) stating ha had received a letter drawing attention' to, the fact that many of the pigeons during the recent competitions of a country gun club had been found suffering great* torture, and in a dying condition. ;It wag pointed out by one of the members present that in the vicinity of Auckland practically nothing bat inanimate pigeons were used, and ho thoughtthis method should be adopted in Canterbury.
