WAIHI BEACH. • Mb' H. J. Lee, secretary of. the Waihi Beach Gold Mining Company, has received: a wire from the manager stating that he has given the pump a trial, and that it has proved satisfactory so far. GOLD AT TOKATEA. [BY TELEGRAPH.—OWN CORRESPONDENT.] Cobomandel, Saturday. It is reported that good strong gold was struck to-day by the Mount Welcome syndicate, Tokatea, while sinking a winze. VICTORIA. [BY TELEGRAPH.OWN* CORRESPONDENT.] Thames, Sunday. The drive along the eastward side of the break at No. 3 level, to pick up the continuation of the new lode in the Victoria mine, is in a distance of 26ft, and has now reached a point where the lode may be met with at any time. Driving on the lode westward of the break is being continued, and although no picked stone has been met with the lode shows colours of gold at each breaking down, and is carrying a very promising class of mineral. WAITANGI. [by TELEGRAPH.OWN CORRESPONDENT.] Thames, Sunday, The winze being sunk on the main reef below the low level in the Waitaugi mine has now reached a depth of 18ft., and th© work of breaking down the hangingwail of the reef has been in hand during, tho latter portion of the week. The quartz broken so far is of liigh-grado quality, and about 101b of good picked stone have been selected, while the general dirt shows blotches of telluride, intermixed with dabs of free gold. In the upper workings the rise to connect Nos. 1 and 2 levels is now up about 40f*. and as the wins* from No. 1 level is down 46ft there remains only about 50ft to rise to connect. This should bo completed during the present month. OTAGO DREDGING RETURNS. [BY TELEGRAPH. —PRESS ASSOCIATION.] I e Dunedin, Sunday. The following dredging returns are reported:—Rise and Shine, 430z sdwt; M&nuherikia, 320z; Worksop, -290z 18dwt: Pactolus No- 2, 19oz 7dwt; Alexandra Eureka, 18oz 6dwt; (Pactolus No. 1, 15oz 16dwt; Charlton Creek, lOoz sdwt; King, 9oz 15dwt; Olrig, Boz lldwt. Tho Roxburgh Amalgamated Mining and Sluicing Company's' return for the past five weeks is 1360£ 7dwt. NOTES. The report accredited to the Thames mine in Saturday's Herald should have referred to iho Magnet mine, Thames. The manager of the Watchman mine, Thames, reports that the total depth of tho winze, 102 ft, has been reached, and the quartz is quite as strong, and carrying as good values at the present depth as before met with. The manager adds that the quartz looks splendid, * and that gold lias been seen every day. ■' The manager of the Tairua Leads mine reports that tho reef has been driven through a distance of 12ft without the hangingwall being seen. A small prospect of gold is still obtainable as the drive advances. Two samples are being forwarded for assayThe total distance driven is 123 ft.
