MEETINGS.

TRADES AND LABOUR COUNCIL. A MKKTi-W of the ' Trade# and Labour Council was held last night, Mr. T. Long presiding over a largo attendance of delegates. Tho Waterside Workers' Union forwarded a resolution passed by it, urging the. City Council to place no obstacle in the way of hawkers of fruit and fish plying their vocation in the streets of the city. It was resolved that the Council endorse the letter, and, further, that the City Council be written. to ( on the matter. Messrs. F. lx>ng, H. L. Horning, and W. S. A)ox.--oin were appointed delegates to the annual •trades and Labour Conference, to be held at. Wellington. .Mr. Rosser stated that a Stage Employees' ' Union had now been formed in Auckland, tho same as had been done in the other chief centres. The Waterside Workers' Union, writing in reference to the oyster industry, considered that the middlemen were making too largo a profit, and made a plea on behalf of tho workers, which the Council endorsed.

At tho same place to-night-Miss Ward will give a lecture entitled " My Life Story." COURT ZEALANDIA, A.O.F. A _ summoned meeting of Court Zealandia, Ancient Order of Foresters, was held in the foresters Hall, Edinburgh-street, last night. Bro. J. Cole, chief ranger, presided. Nominations were received of officers for tho ensuing half-year. It was unanimously resolved to nominate Bro. D. ,T. Wright for the position of district secretary, Bro. R. Darlow for district senior woodward, and Bro W. .Moray for district junior woodward and beadle. Tho Foresters' Fire was accorded and responded, to by the visiting brethren. Bros. R. Darlow, D.8., A E Green glade, P-.D.C.R., and A. Piesse, district book examiner.
