LACROSSE.
AUCKLAND MATCHES. -Inclement weather prevailed on Saturday, when, the champonship matches under the auspices of tho Auckland Lacrosse Association were continued. At the Victoria Park West End defeated Auckland, while on tho Domain Grafton were victorious over Ponsonby. The following are the details of tho day's play: — AUCKLAND V. WEST END. From the mid-field face," McCoy dashed for goal; Ryder accepted, but, failing to pass quickly, McWilliams chocked, and sent to .T. Watters; then Borrodale received and sent in a fine goal. From oentro tho ball went to J. Watters, who brought down to goal, A good attacking movement was frustrated by Stewart, who transferred back to McCoy, who made an excellent opening, and sent to A. Walton, whoso good shot equalised the score. From the face-off, Borrodale and Watters brought down, Wilson received, and, eluding, his checker, landed a. fine goal. From centre the ball went to J. Watters. (rood stopping by Carpenter prevented further progress, and McCoy's pass opened up another attack, from which A. Walton again equalised the score. Tho first quarter ended two all. From centre the Auckland vanguard set up another strong attack, and, from a loose rush around West End's goal, Borrodalo placed Auckland in the lead. For the next five minutes even play was the order. A good pass by Wymah enabled Ryder to lead an attack, and H. Walton dashed in and, with a good shot, found the net, the scores being again equalised. Tho West End forward division began to menace their opponents' goal, and from a ground scrummage the ball was whisked out to Firth, -who promptly threw it into tho net. West End now led by four goals to three. The opening of the third quarter was marked by an effort, of Carpenter, who, from the halfway flag, throw a somewhat lucky goal. This was speedily followed by one from Firth and another from H. Walton. In this spell Auckland failed to score. In the, last quarter, Firth added another for West. End, and, just on tho call of time, J. Watters notched one for Auckland, and, " no side" sounding, left West End winners of a keen struggle by eight goals to four. ..-.-.. GRAFTON V. PONSONBY. The Ponsonby side could only muster six men against Grafton's nine. They played one spell of half an hour's duration. The conclusion saw the Grafton side winners by seven goals to four.' For Grafton goals were thrown by Phiison (six) and Brassey. For Ponsonby Wonllams (two), and Nolan (two) were the scorers.
