; Mr. R. K. Thomas (South/Australian Register), replying, said that while the people of Australasia were anxious for closer touch with the Motherland and sister Dominions, they could hot ignore the interests of the Eastern Extension Company. Mr. J. W. Kirwan : (editor of the Kalgoorlie Miner) and 1 Mr. Cohen (Dunedin Star), were among the chief speakers at a luncheon given by Mr. Frank Oliver" (Minister for the Interior). ; "':;'-.. . ~//.; , ■■..'' ....': The Board of Trade and the newspaper proprietors of Montreal entertained the delegates respectively at luncheon and at a banquet. : Mr. Thomas, interviewed, declared : "We propose to protect ourselves and our region, but are not less determined to help the Motherland to bring the navy to the highest point of strength. It is certain that in the coming session of the Commonwealth Parliament our relations with the Empire in defence will' be the foremost subject. , ? .''
