The master reports that the Ranadi took her departure from Suva at a p.m. on the 17th inst., and experienced strong easterly winds and rough , sea for the first two days, thence N.E. winds and thick, rainy weather 'i and heavy seas to arrival as above. tne steamer comes to this port for docking and general overhaul, which will take about three weeks to complete. . * - ' . : i; NEW STEAMER FOR GISBORNK. ■■."/;: N The Gisborne Sheepfarmers* Frozen Meat Works Company has ordered a new ; twin-screw steamer to act as a lighter at Gisborne. iue vessel will probablv be built at Auckland, aim will measure 106 ft in length, 21ft bin beam, ana Bft draught. The additional draught that is being given the new boat, Mr. de Lautour (i*? ™ of the company) explained, is being added ,in the belief that 'the purchase of a modern dredge, bv the Harbour Board and the initiation ot a vigorous policy of river improvement, will justify the obtaining of a vessel of slightly larger dimensions and draught than otherwise would have been ventured upon.' . \ LYTTELTON-WELLINGTON SERVICE. Advices received report that the Mararoa will be docked at Lyttelton to-day for cleaning and painting, and also to have the new thrust-shaft fitted, which was forged at Port Chalmers She is fixed to leave Lyttelton for Wei.iMton tomarrow, replacing the Maori, while that vessel goes into dock at Lyttelton. On Thursday the. Maori resumes and the. Mararoa remains at Lyt telton till Friday, when she takes up her old running. The Pateena. which \sao.«Ka»» substitute boat in the Wellington-Lytte ton seivire, will withdraw at Wellington nest Ihms day to go on the slip, after which she will probably re-enter the Wellington-r.cton-Nelson service. ■ - THE TALUNE. The s.s. Talune. Captain J. T. Rolls, arrived from Dunedin. via port*, at 1.15 p.m. yesterdio. and berthed at Quay-street Jetty No. 2 -=. The steamer left Dunedin on the 18th met., and called at Lvttelton. Wellington, Napier, and C- 180 . ™*"- en route, leaving the last-named port for Auckland at 11 a.m. on Saturday, and arriving as above. She experienced light, variable winds and smooth sea. until leaving Gisborne, thence heavv sea till a few hours before reaching port. The Talune returns South to-morrow afternoon.

Stewart arrived from Westport at 3 p.m. yesterday, with a cargo or coal and berthed at Hobson-street » hart. The Rakanoa left Westport on Wednesday night at 10 o'clock and met with fine weather until Fridav, when a strong north-east gale and Mgn seas "were experienced, continuing till rounding Cape Maria Van Diemen at 1 p.m. on Saturday, thence verv thick weather and strong north-east winds and heavy rain until making port as above.
