THE CARTERS' DISPUTE.
AGREEMENT ARRIVED AT.
At the Arbitration Court yesterday, when the carters' dispute was called on Mr. G. Davis, the representative of the union, announced that an agreement had been arrived at. An application from the Sawmillers and Woodware Manufacturers' Association was heard for exemption from clause 5, which referred to holidays. Mr. C. Grosvenor appeared for the applicants' and Mr. G. Davis for the union. No objection to the exemption was offered by Mr. Davis,' and it was accordingly granted. , fa J The Auckland City Council applied for exemption from the award, subject to the payment of the minimum rates of wages and the maintenance of. the hours of labour.
The' Court undertook to consider the application, which was opposed by the union.
