MARRIED MEN FAVOURED.
[BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN" CORRESPONDENT.]
Wellington, Wednesday. Slackness of employment has affected the Government Printing Office, and a fairly large number of men have been temporarily discharged or put on half-time. la the machinery division alone there are a dozen men on reduced time, and dissatisfaction is being expressed by some of the members of the permanent staff because they have been put on half-time, while men who are casual employees are kept fully employed. The reason for this differentiation, as given by the Government printer, is said to lie in the fact that the half-time permanentists are all single, while the fully employed casual men are all married. The aggrieved ones contend that this is not sufficient reason, the more so because all permanent men have to pay money into the Government superannuation fund on a full-time basis, and they are approaching the Ministec in charge with a request for an inqui'T into their case.
