WASHING THE TEACHER'S '
CLOTHES.

Christ-church, Wednesday. At the annual meeting of householders of the Richmond school district, Mr. V fe Russell, M.P., said that he bad a serious complaint to make in regard to a'cerfaia laundry class which was held 'at; the. Karma i School, for the instruction of hod children. The children of this particular class were instructed by their teacher to bring certain articles of their own cloth, ing to be Jaundried for the purposes of instruction. One week, however/the children were informed that they need not bring their own linen. When the pupils reached the classroom they found thati&«' teacher had brought out a quantity of her own personal clothing, which she set .thj girls to wash. His own daughter was amongst the number, and ,< Mrs. Russell had withdrawn - her daughter from';tie': class, and would not allow her to alidadi any more. He had never heard of ia greater piece of impudence in all his lift It was a scandalous thing that the children of any school should have been asked to wash a teacher's clothing. He had been informed that the lady. instructor ; was an importation from England; i Perhaps her. views of colonial life were somewhat different from other :,. people's. If she imagined that she could turruch'oot girls ■■ into laundry-women for her. 6wu benefit, it was time she was packed,off Home again. He moved: " That this meeting, having been made aware ' that the teacher of a laundry instruction cldst had used the girls' services for the parpose of doing her own washing, instructs the chairman to communicate with the Education Board regarding the matter.". The motion was carried unanimously,
