AN OLD MAN'S DEATH.
■ SUSPICIOUS CIRCUMSTANCES. [BY TELEGRAPH.—PRESS association.] > '.'•.-.;. Chbistchubch, Tuesday. Suspicions circumstances appear to have developed, in connection with the death of a man aged 70, named Andrew Douglas Hardie, whose body was found lying outside a cottage • near Dudley Creek, Richmond, on Sunday morning. At the inquest to-day, Dr. Mill gave evidence to the effect that the spine had been dislocated, and eight ribs on the right side of the body broken, one penetrating the , heart. The .injuries might have been caused by a blow on the side. They were all ante-mortem, and might have been caused by. a motor car striking the man's back and side.- 11f'he were struck by a car it was possible there would be no mark, because death followed so quickly. * After ti.'e blow the deceased would not have been able to walk from, the scene of the accident ,to < the place, at which the > body was found, a distance of 15yds. Deceased was absolutely incapable of stooping, and ; therefore, could not place the Maori kit (which was supporting, the head when found) under his head. - ;, The inquest'was adjourned until Tuesday, in order to allow the police to make further inquiries.
