The man named William Brewer, who was last week found guilty of cattle stealing at Runanga, was sentenced to two years' hard labour at the Supreme Court to-day, His Honor Judge - Edwards taking into account a strong recommendation made by the jury for mercy. Lawrence Jefferson, who came up for 'Sentence for the theft of a suit of clothes at Hastings, was sentenced to 12 months* imprisonment. _ "• TrMAETi, Monday. At the Magistrate's Court to-day Bernard Clancy was fined £10, or,, in default, three months' imprisonment, for supplying liquor to prohibited persons (Martin Shepherd and Thomas Collins), who, in turn, were each fined £5, or in default one month's imprisonment, for obtaining liquor. : '
