G. .Mair,' of the : Native Land Court, will retire r under the 'Civil Service regulations at the end of the month. .;, Mr. T. H. - Hustwick, y Customs analyst and inspector of explosives, has- been superannuated, and his term of . duty -.. expires on the same date.
In the Mines Department the latest retirement to be announced' is that of Mr. R. Tennent, inspector of; mines for the Westland and Marlborough district. Mr. Teh-; nent will leave; on March / 31; with three months' leave of absence. £UHe - has had 12 years'. service ;in the Department, prior to which he managed the Brunner, mine. , A Southern stipendiary magistrate - (Mr. C. Wray), who is one of the members of the Civil Service superannuation fund to ; retire under the age limit, expressed the; opinion that the Superannuation Act ..required a resolution, of Parliament before a v Civil : servant could retire.' Therefore, in his opinion, the proposed retirements could not legally take place on March 31. ;; This point was put to the Hon. Dr. Findlay - (Attorney-; General), who informed ii a New Zealand Times representative that last session's.Act had altered the position, making it perfectly legal to do what had been done by the Justice ■ Department and ' other ; sections of the Civil Service. -;" ; ' : iv : --'.:-'> : r "
