In the Mines Department the latest retirement to be announced' is that of Mr. R. Tennent, inspector of; mines for the Westland and Marlborough district. Mr. Teh-; nent will leave; on March / 31; with three months' leave of absence. £UHe - has had 12 years'. service ;in the Department, prior to which he managed the Brunner, mine. , A Southern stipendiary magistrate - (Mr. C. Wray), who is one of the members of the Civil Service superannuation fund to ; retire under the age limit, expressed the; opinion that the Superannuation Act ..required a resolution, of Parliament before a v Civil : servant could retire.' Therefore, in his opinion, the proposed retirements could not legally take place on March 31. ;; This point was put to the Hon.
