THE WELLINGTON ZOO.
Wellington's Zoo is growing rapidly. There are in its membership the lion, which the citizens love to hear roar, and which will now have a mate, a camel, three monkeys, two lemurs, a pair of hog deer, a pair of Russian deer, a pair of Timor deer, one Axis deer, a pair of great gray kangaroos, a pair of red-necked and brushtailed wallabies, three dingoes, some tuataras, and opossums, and a great number of guinea-pigs, hedgehogs and rabbits. In addition to the mammals, there are a largo number of New Zealand birds, Australian birds, and. birds from all parts of the world. There are black and white swans, Muscovy, mallard, and other ducks, Chinese maned goose, puikaki, half a dozen different kinds of seagulls, Australian and NewZealand teal, an ibis, terns, four emus, a pair of peafowl, Californian quail, a native pigeon, a weka a morepork owl, a great variety of pheasants, some of them beautifully pi umaged, crested doves, hawks, and laughing jackasses. The collection includes finches, cockatoos, parrots, lovebirds and Pekin robins. ;
