STRANDING OF SHIP FORREST HALL.
Sir,— the Herald of yesterday appeared the brief announcement, of the stranding of this -.vessel 20 miles to; the southward, of Cape Maria Van Diomen,' and in to-day's ; V . paper the hypothetical- statement pre-sup- ' • posing her total abandonment, Here we ■' have in Auckland a first-class tug of 1000 horse-power yearning to display her . ability - and ' prove her valuable " assistance ;to ■ vessejs • needing her services round our coasts. It, is the height of summer, with assured fine weather as far as can he expected, and yet the Te Awbina lies at. the wharf with steam up,. doing nothing, instead, of proceeding to save property, if possible, for it is useless speculating what might or . could be done without, practical action in : the . matter. L Even if the vessel . becomes a total loss, the, stores, sails, gear, and spars, besides other salvage, would pay a handsome return to the Harbour Board, and which is worth try- • ing as is the case all over the world. March 3. ■■■; v ; J. Adambon.
