NORTHCOTE BOROUGH COUNCIL.
The monthly meeting of the Northcote Borough Council was held on Tuesday night, I.when there were present: The Mayor (Mr. H. Cadness), Messrs. G. Fraser,■; J.- Broady, , J. B. Tonar, W. N. Rushbrook; A.' E. Greenslade, J. Dykes, H. H. Hunt, and D. A. Gray. Birkenhead Water Supply: A communica- ;; tion from the Birkenhead Borough | Council, M making the following suggestions in connection with the proposal that Northcote should supply •: that borough with water,'" was dealt ' with ,in committee:—(l) An agreement * for the:term of the existing.loan.'-(2) That the ". cost of the line i of pipes from the. lake to the Northcote reservoir, intake, 1 * pumping v ' plant, :and;. appurtenances '.to; lake site, be 1 kept in a separate account;; interest on this;, cost, sinking fund, maintenance and working expenses to 'be * charged to this i separate »c- '■'■■ count. (3) According to the amount, of water 7 used by each district, as shown; 'byVmeter;-" '"?-" they , shall pay the 'proportionate' amount ■of *' ■■■•■' expenses. (4) Theextra cost of fuel in lifting the water from height of Northcote' reservoir to the height <of the'Birkenhead r reservoir - to be borne by the' Birkenhead [ Council, such" . cost to bo determined by actuals experience ' ■ after 12 months' c pumping. (5) I Birkenhead '■'?■£ to pay ; half i the interest j and '•: sinking' fund from the -date'of commencement of interest on Northcote loan to the date of; supplying>s Birkenhead with water, and a further sum of £100 in recognition of Northcote' pioneer :■ work. ' (6) The minimum contribution to.be loss than half cost of sinking fund and : in- ■ terest and working expenses 1 of ■ the separ&.<*) accounts. (7) Birkenhead, -at the close of > the term stated _in clause 1, will have paid ' for half cost of items mentioned in clause 2, and will therefore be entitled to half in-. . terest in those items.
Kauri Gully: t In reply to a communication from the Commissioner of Crown Lands % regarding a suggestion that Kauri Gully: Reservo should be vested in the Northcote Bor-: ough, it was decided to accept ■ the responsibility of this scenic, reserve, subject J to,,the t i Department granting-a-? substantial subsidy towards the improvement of the ground. : :,\ Transfer From County: The deed of settlement between the ? Waitemata County •Council and the borough was received from the Council's solicitors (Messrs. Alison' and Alison), and the Mayor and Messrs. Fraser-: and Hunt were empowered to sign the docu- • ment on behalf of Northcote. By-laws: The town clerk was instructed to take"; proceedings against persons ? acting ! v in defiance of the by-laws. ' Several breaches "i\. were alleged to have been committed in connection with s the water supply, r : erection of new buildings without submitting f plans, .to tfte Council, failing to cut back overhanging hedges and trees, etc. Goldhole: The foreman of works was instructed to prepare an estimate for continuing the drain at Goldhole Beach further ouV« ; Loan Works: ;'; It was decided to ? proceed with the cutting down of the road and footbaths at Collier's Hill, and the grading : of ; Callan's Road from Princes-street to Sulphur Beach, suitable , for vehicular ; traffic, 1 im- : > mediately; both works to be done by day labour, under the supervision of. the borough engineer. The tenders received s for Collier's'S Hill and Queen-street were rejected, owing f to '; the ; prices being ■-' too much in ; excess of • the estimates. „ ■'•: ;
