AN ASSAULT CASE.
YOUNG WOMAN ATTACKED. A serious assault case is reported from Henderson. On Tuesday night, at about 7.30, a young woman, 23 years of age, who resides with her parents at Henderson, was returning from * the shop where she is employed to her home, half a mile away. She was taking a short cut along a track in some bush, about 400 yds.long, and had got to within a hundred yards of her parents' residence, when, she says, a man sprang at her and assaulted her. She states that he struck her a severe blow on the left eye, and knocked her down, and then i.seized her by the throat. The girl fainted, and when she recovered consciousness her assailant had disappeared. A neighbour who was a short distance behind the girl at the time she entered the bush, missed her, and on investigating, found her in the scrub. The young woman, who is well known in the district, received no serious injury, though her left eye was blackened> and her neck scratched. Thft police are investigating the matter. "V '* '■• '\'<,:.
