ECCLESIASTICAL.

EVANGELISTIC SERVICES. Mr. Hugh Paton, a Scottish evangelist, conducted services in Auckland yesterday. In the morning ho preached at St. Andrew's Church, and in the afternoon addressed a large number of people at the Western Park. In the evening there was a large congregation at St. David's Church to hear .Sir. Paton, who based his discourse on the words, "I am the way." During the service the choir rendered "Abide With Me," Miss Lambournc and Mr. Steel taking the solo parts. At the close of the service the "Dead March" in "Saul" was played in respect to the memory of the Rev. Professor Dunlop, D.D., of Dunedin, who died last week, and who was for 20 years a figure of great influence in church life in New Zealand. The musical portion of the service was conducted by Mr. K. S. Craston, Mus.P.. TIIEOSOPUICAL SOCIETY. At the rooms of the Auckland Thoosophical Society last, evening Mr. W. T. Raymond lectured on "Karma, the Harvest of Thought, Word, and Action." Thcosophy, he argued, taught, that thoughts, as well as actions, had their effect, as unavoidable as any ether in the natural world. A discussion followed as usual. A good attendance gathered at the TJioosophieal Hall last night to hear Dr. Sanders lecture upon "Sacrifice: The Law of Life," and an interesting discussion followed.
