POLICE COURT NEWS.
THREATENING BEHAVIOUR. Ht'cn Ross, a young carpenter, residing at Parnell, was charged at the Police Court, yesterday, before Mr. C. C. Kettle. S.M., with threatening behaviour. Mr. Hackett appeared on ' his behalf. Constable O'Connor deposed that he had reason to caution the defendant at about 12.30 on Christmas morning against a- display of violence towards a young man engaged in a fish shop. Defendant asked witness to go away while he "had a go" at the subject of his aversion. The defence was a denial of anything in the nature of violent conduct, but Ross admitted that he had had a little drink. He was convicted and ordered to come up for sentence when called upon.
MISCELLANEOUS. Reginald Robertson, a respectably-dressed young man, who was convicted for drunkenness, on Tuesday, was again before the Court- on a similar charge. He pleaded that while suffering from the effect of his first bout he had a couple of drinks, and before he knew where he was he had given himself up to the police. If given another chance he would return to Wellington. Defendant was convicted and fined 10s, in default 48 hours' imprisonment. James Trueman. a prohibited person, was charged with being unlawfully on the premises of the Britomart Hotel. In the absence of proof that defendant obtained liquor at the hotel, he was convicted and discharged. Michael Martin was convicted on a charge of using obscene language in a public place, and was ordered to pay a fine ot £2. or go to gaol for 48 hours. William John Parker was remanded until Monday on a charge of having stolen a watch and a pair of trousers. Ernest Hutchinson pleaded guilty to depositing fish offal in the harbour, and was fined £5 and costs. Mr. Kettle said the practice was very objectionable, and must be firmly put down. The shores of the harbour." especially the inner portion, should be kept as" clean as possible.
