He. was kept a long way out during the first half-mile, and after a Dunishiiur finish was beaten by Flia-

(TOt, who had not «a.on the winning list for about 12 month*. The field included the hurdler Aorangi, who was beaten by- Parable for third place.

The scratching of Ikon and Swimming Belt (Cup candidates) and De Witte (who did not accompany Cutis' team from the South) reduced trie held for the Anniversary Welter Handicap to four, two of the pinners (Prism and San t'er. nan do) hailing froin 1 the same stable. The Merrie bngland gelding Merrie Zealand, a winner on the second day of the Rangitikei meeting, had no oimcuity in beating the moderate opposition. Jvurawnka, ridden out, was a moderate second. A field of nine contested the Electric Handicap Naumai acted as pacemaker to the turn. where the South Island horse Serenade showed up on the outside. At the distance Flitaway came through and appeared to" have the race won. A hundred yard* from home Gipsy Bellethrew out a strong challenge and settled Flitaway without difficulty. The whole of the 18 acceptors for' the Nursery handicap went to the post. At the end of a furlong the field was strung out over a considerable distance. The Ilawke's Bay-Owned Theodore (by Merriwee—Heavenly Twin) got away smartly on the rail.-, and had everything beaten a furlong from home. Merrivonia was bred by her owner (Mr. Joseph Ames, the well-known totalisator proprietor). Merrivonia's record to date is three wins and two seconds out of five starts. The Porirua stable scored its second win in the Ruapehii Hack Handicap with TV Kahllrangi, who carries the same colours as Gold Crest.
