The prospects of the Royal Oak mine have materially improved of late, and the present outlook is very promising. At No. 6 level the oro body is about. Ift wide, and 451b of picked stono was obtained in the last sft. of driving immediately prior to the holidays. The importance of the development., however, is in the fact that tho reef east of the hard bar is carrying gold in excellent country. There is a block of 140 ft overhead intact, and there has not been anything dono on the reef at. this point below No. 6 level, so there is a large extent of practically virgin country on which to operate. It is intended to drive in tho opposite direction (west of the hard bar) at No. 6 level, put up a rise of about 40ft. and then work towards the point where tho late Captain Hodge got tho big patch of gold. OLD HAU'RiAKI. [by telegraph.—OWN correspondent.] Coromandel, Tuesday. A crosscut is being driven from the 300 ft level to meet, tho winze, and the country is of a most, favourable character. Where the gold was obtained in the winze is about half-way between tho 220 ft levol and where the crosscut will intersect the reef. Tho drive south-east of No. 8 reef is in an excellent. channel of country. In the riso on No. 2 reef south of the old winze, thereef averages Sin, and fair prospects of gold have been got by crushing and dish washing. WAIHI GRAND JUNCTION.
