An interesting item by a well-known expert appearing in Throne and Country should be of interest to local enthusiasts, as (browing .some light upon the probable result of any meeting of Arnst and Barry, the English champion. Tlio British authority says: "I am afraid that Ba.ry's victory over Towns lias been rather over-rated in its value, although there is no denying that the Englishman is a very useful sculler. His opponent for the recent championship, however, had unquestionably 'gone off,' which is not unnatural at his age, and those who knew Towns of old missed that beautiful, thorough 'finish' of which lie was such a master. Now he unquestionably did not pull his stroke right through, or get his 'weight, on to it.' Barry—according to traditional confirmation—is rather too tall, being well over 6ft, for his weight, list 31b."
