BLOODSTOCK SALES.
GLENORA PARK YEARLINGS.
THIRTEEN LOTS REALISE 2100
GUINEAS.
The 26th annual silo of yearjings bred by Mr. W. Walters, Glenora Park, was held yesterday, and, as usual, a large assemblage was attracted to the Papakura Estate to assist thereat. Mr. H. 0. Nolan conducted the sale on behalf of the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Con? pony. Amongst, the faces round the ringside were: Messrs. W. H. Merries M.P., F. W. Lang, M.P., T. W. Wilford, M.P. (Wellington), Murdoch McLean, T. H. Lowry (Hawke's Bay), Alfred Kid, Geo. Duavhett, A. Dunningham, Donald McKinnon, J. F. Hartland, E. A. Price, F. Roes (Waakato), Harvey Paterson (Victoria), J. Marshall. J. J. Craig, J. Muir, P. Maxwell, J. Kae, Jas. Hill, G. M. Currie (Wanganui), W. Foss, C. Winder, Walter Davies, Angus, W. Gordon, C. Halstead, Robt. Wynyard, E. W. Alison, Donald McLeod. It. W. Duder. H. T. Gorrie, H. R. McKenaie, and John Rowe. After the visitors had partaken of Mr. Walters' hospitality, Mr. Nolan read the conditions of sale, "and the first lot to be led into the ring was a bloodlike filly by Gluten from Soultgirl. Being cast on diminutive lines, {he competition lor her possession was not brisk, and she was knocked down at 70gs. Something of a more attractive order came next on the list, in the shape of a bay filly by Soult from Princess Alice, who claims t'ull-sistership to the clever Avalanche. Mr. A. Hansen, in whose colours Avalanche won many races, was quickly in to bid for her sister, and outstaying the opposition he secured her cheaply at 145gs. A shapely chestnut half-brother to Hughie, by Gluten from Goldweb, was the third lot, and speculation opened at 50gs., dragging slowly to 105g5., at which price Mr. J. J. Craig secured an undoubted bargain. When the brown colt by Soult from Lady Musket was led into the ring there was quite a buzz of admiration, and the young thoroughbred well deserved the distinction. Mr. Nolan did not have long to wait ere a bid of 200gs. was made, and it advanced rapidly to 500g5., at which figure Mr. Frank Ross, of Cambridge, was announced as the purchaser. The Lady Musket, colt, is a remarkably well-grown youngster, and he appears to possess all the attributes that go to make a racehorse. The succeeding lot, a bay filly by Soult from Hotoherina. proved to be another gem of the collection. A bid of ?00gs. was quickly called, but though the. price rose rapidly in 25-guinea bids >o 300g5., there was no advance beyond that sum, and the filly was knocked down to a commissioner acting on behalf of Mr. 0. I). Greenwood. The Hotcherina filly claims full-sistership to a number of performers, and if she does not achieve something for the great family to which she owes her descent a lot of keen judges will be much astray in their judgment. A racy-looking filly by Gluten— McGregor went at 60gs. to the Australian sportsman, Mr. Payne. A well-balanced bar colt, by Soult from the Medallion mare Corusa, who is bred on almost similar lines to the brilliant Wairiki, seemed likely to bring about a strong competition, but the bidding for his possession closed at 275g5., Mr. Johnson being the purchaser. A beautiful bay filly by Soult from St. Edith, who can be termed brimful of quality, went cheaply to Mr. W. Lyons at 150gs. Mr. W. Irwin secured a colt by Soult from Curacoa at 25g5., but the youngster showed symptoms of unsoundness, caused through an adventure with a wire fence. A sturdy brown colt by Soult from Lady B, showing a deal of quality, went to Mr. J. J. Craig at 200g5., and ho was regarded as one of the bargains of the day. Mr. D, Moraghan bought a low-set racy-looking colt by Soult from Romola at 160gs. Owing to an injury the Soult—Lady Rose filly was not produced. A sturdy filly by Soult—Lady Emmeline, carrying a suspicious looking near foreleg, went to Mr. Harvey Patterson, of Victoria, and is no doubt intended for breeding purposes, only. The last of the youngsters offered was the bay colt by Hackenschmidt— Merry Nif, bred to English time. Although foaled in April, 1907, this colt now ranks as a two-year-old, which prevented spirited competition, but at 60gs. Mr. H. R. Mackenzie, of Mangere, secured a great bargain, if only for stud purposes later on. Altogether the 13 yearlings 'sold realised 2100g5., or an average of 161 igs. each, which must be considered satisfactory. After disposing of the Glenora lots, a number of other yearlings, also several brood mares, were placed under the hammer. Mr. G. M, Currie, of Wanganui, sold a nice filly by SoultAllinga at 60gs. to Mr. G. Mills, and a filly bv Soult—Vexation at 70gs. to Mr. J. B. Williamson. A colt by MerriweeMerveilleux, and a filly by the same sire from Minola, went respectively at 65gs. and 40gs. A bay colt by Obligado—Hesper, and a gelding by MusketryOhinewai were sold cheaply by Mr. Donald McKinnon at 30gs. and 18gs. ; while Mr. Alfred Kidd parted with the brood mare Mary Seaton at 40g8., and passed in St. Margaretta, dam of Celtic, at llOgs., the reserve being 160gs. A filly, out of the latter mare, by Soult, was bought at 40gs. by Mr. Harvey Patterson, while the owner of Dunborve," Mr. George Dunnett. got a useful looking gelding by Gluten —Catchfly at 45gs. St. Olga, the "sister to St. Paul, stinted to Seaton Delaval, was purchased by the New South Wales sportsj man, Mr. J. Burton, at 120gs. Mr. W. Walters became the owner of Curacoa, with foal at foot and stinted to Soult, the price being 1660g5. In addition to the 2100gs. realised for the Glenora yearlings, the other bloodstock sold brought in 1179g5., or a total for the day of 3279g5. Particulars of the sale are as'follows : —
