TRADE IN ASHBURTON.
[BY TELEGRAPH.—OWN CORRESPONDENT,] ■- Christchubch, Monday. A number of business people, representing various trades in Ash burton, speak very favourably of the volume of business done during the Christmas holidays. In most cases a very marked improvement on previous years is reported The improvement has been felt mostly by dealers in goods suitable for Christmas presents, but it was* not confined to this class of business. One tailor staged that he had turned away far more orders than he had accepted. His business lias been with people who are able to muet their obligations, and the cash has not been difficult to obtain. Drapers said that there had been an undeniable increase in the business done, and this year's Christmas has been the best yet experienced.
