BAND PERFORMANCE.

A massed military band performance was held at Devonport football ground yesterday afternoon, under the auspices of tho First Auckland Mounted Rifles' Band, conducted by Mr. Whalley Stewart. In addition to the regimental 4 band, the H.M.S. j Powerful Band, under Bandmaster V. Robertie, and H.M.S. Challenger's band, under Bandmaster L. M. Baniet, took part. There was an audience of between 4000 and 5000 people. The three bands are true military organisation*, and gave a very successful performance. The selection, "Reminiscences of Scotland," showing tho r&sources of tone combination of the woodwinds, string basses, and French horns. The following programme was rendered: — March. " Death or Glory," massed bands under baton of Bandmaster L. M. Baniet; selection. "Faust," Challenger band? selection, "Pirates of Penzance," combined Powerful and First A.M.R. Bands; sacred selection, Handel's "Hallelujah Chorus," arranged for bands by Mr. Whalley Stewart, and conducted by him, massed bands; cornet solo. "The Lost Chord," Bandmaster L. M. Barnet, with accompaniment by Challenger band ; selection, "Reminiscences of Scotland," combined .Powerful and FiW A.M.R. bands. " God Save the King," massed bands.
