NORTH AUCKLAND LINES.
OPENING UP FERTILE . LANDS.

Whan caret, Saturday. At the conference of delegates from the various Northern railway leagues, Mr. N. Finlayson, president of (ho Maungaturoto Railway League, who had acted as convener, moved: " That an association be formed to bo called the North Auckland Railway. League, tho object of which shall be tho performance of any function calculated to secure the construction of the Main Trunk railway lino north of Auckland with tho utmost expedition." In speaking to tbo motion, Mr. Finlayson referred to the largo extent of fertile country in the North, quite uncultivated on account of the want of railway communication, and Mid tho time was ripe for tho North to agitate actively in tho direction indicated in tho motion.
Mr. Mander, M.P., Mr. E. Harding, and others spoke in support, and the motion was unanimously adopted. Tho subscription was fixed at £1 per annum, and tho election of office-bearers resulted in Mr. E. Harding being appointed president, and Messrs. D. W. Jack, A. E. Yarborou'gh, and N. Finlayson, vicepresidents Mr. McCormick was appointed treasurer, and Mr. Froudo secretary pro tern.
Arrangements were made for an extensive oxcursion through the North, about the middle of January next, and it was resolved that the chairman of the Auckland Railways League (Mr. Peacoeke), in conjunction with the president of the North Auckland league, be asked to issue invitations to Ministers of the Crown, members of Parliament, and public works officials, at their discretion.
NAPIER-GISBORNE RAILWAY.

Gisborne, Saturday.
Replying to the Hastings Chamber of Commerce, which requested tho co-opera-tion of the Gisborno Chamber in the matter of pushing on the claims of the proposed Napier-Oisborne railway, the executive of the latter body last night resolved: " That as our own railway to Motm requires all our concentration at present, this chamber cannot see its way to agitate for the other line in the meantime."
