NEW SUNDAY-SCHOOL HALL.
FOUNDATION-STONE LA ID. Tub foundation-stone, of the new Epsom Presbyterian Sunday-school Hall was laid on Saturday, in the presence of a large gathering of members of the church and interested friends.
The ceremony was commenced by the singing of the " Old Hundredth," and subsequently Mr, J. J. Kor, superintendent of the Sunday-school, presented a silver trowel, suitably engraved, to Mrs. Gardner, who declared the stone to be "well and truly" laid. The stone, which in let into the wall, is from the Oamaru quarries, and is also a memorial to Mrs. Gardner's deceased husband, who started the Sundayschool in that district.
Tho Rev. W; Gray Dixon, Moderator of the Presbytery, who was present, in the course of an interesting address mentioned that the ceremony was tho first function performed since the inauguration of the new Presbytery of Auckland . He stated also that out of the 30,000 Presbyterians of the Dominion, 5000 were in the Auckland province. During the afternoon a collection was taken up, which amounted to £17 4s iOd. The ladies of the congregation provided afternoon tea.
The hall, which is being built of camerated concrete, is a T-shaped building, and is to bo erected at the rear of the church, and on the same allotment. The builder is Mr. F. W. Forrest, and the architect Mr. A. L. Ferneyliough. The structure is estimated to seat 200 persons in the mam hall, and in addition to this there are three large class-rooms. It is to be utilised as a Sunday-school, and for meetings and, entertainments, etc. The estimated cost is about £600, and it is ex- , pected to be completed inside three I months.
