WAIHI GRAND JUNCTION. ;■. : ; S ; - A TOUR OF ' INSPECTION. [BY TELEGRAPH.— COERESPONDEs'T. ] Waihi, Thursday. In company with the superintendent (Mr. F. C. Brown), the Herald representative this morning inspected the . development works in progress in the south-east crosscut from No. 4 level in r the > Grand Junction mine, and found the outlook very encourag- ' • ing.: On the seam of quarts intersected on October .31 at 985 ft from the shaft, the values" of which in the crosscut were officially given as £1' Is -9d and £1 12s 9d per ton, a drive has followed the ore going east for a distance of 19ft, and in the present face for 2ft 4in nice-looking quartz is exposed, worth £3 : 13s per ton. At a distance of -38ft further 'on .in the crosscut (1023 ft. from the shaft) - is ' the seam of ; ; ; quartz • which ; f assayed f; '- £1 ■ 8a 6d per ton, and - which will prob- | ably prove to bo the hangingwall of j the quartz body which came to hand a few j feet ahead (following on a horse ot mullock), j and now being--driven upon. The, identity ! of this lode, which comes into the crosscut !. at an acute angle,. has not yet 1 been deterj mined, but . the general impression is that ! it will prove to bo the Royal. Here the I .-mineralised oro which was ;officially anj nounced as worth £4 per ton for 3ft is in evidence for about sft in all, and from its appearance is the beat dirt-so far disclosed; on the hangingwall section of a. lode in the crosscut. • Friable white quartz juch as is: usually mot with between the values in the .various lodes in ;-the mine is now showing across the greater part' of - the i face,-' with mineralised quartz on the right-hand corner of the • crosscut, and . a , little ; mineral is mixed up with the white quartz near tho floor of tho drive. There are indications of a footwall, and if the characteristics of the lodes generally prevail the band of friable 1 quartz will bo- followed by a further section of - mineralised t ore before the footwall country comes to hand. The indications, on the whole, point to the existence of a* large quartz formation.

The superintendent of. the Waihi Grand Junction mine telegraphed , yesterday as follows: — Crosscut to the south,', at 985 ft, have driven upon the vein 19ft east. Pay ore 2ft 4in; assay value per ton, £3 135." ! This message refers to the . reef cut on | November ?. last, 985 ft from the shaft at | No. 4 level. . ;. ;- ; - ■ ' KOMATA REEFS. ~ The following information ' has been cabled to - the London - office of the Komata Reefs Gold Mining Company:—"We are crushing 90 tons per day, the assay value being 31s per ton. No. 2 reef in the drive north at No. 5 level, from 455 ft to 466 ft, averages 4ft in width and 37s per ton in value. On No. 2 reef at No. I level the face of the drive is showing high-grade ore." . On the , hangingwall side of the winze a small ' leader has 1 been out dipping towards the main body. In the Dixon's Consolidated mine,; Tararu, the crosscut, is in . favourable country, with numerous mineral ' Teams. < The reef formation: recently cut was sft ' wide, and: after passing through it the manager roper that ho cut another 6in reef, showing good mineral indications. _ The drive on the parallel reef ia in highlymineralised country.:^arid _ the; quartz V contains -good-mineral indications.:" - * ; *
